Stephen Bransford’s first novel, Riders of the Long Road, Doubleday, NY, won the Texas Literary Festival Award. It is historically accurate fiction, the story of a renegade turned curcuit riding preacher, hounded across a violent American landscape by his illegitimate son, seeking vengeance for the death of his religiously tormented mother.
It all began as a screenplay of the same name sold to Howard Shuster, the New York producer of the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve. They had made a lot of money with Superman and wanted to do a quality picture that might not otherwise be made by Hollywood. Stephen was honored to be chosen. The movie never happened but Doubleday signed me to turn it into a novel. Nice consolation prize.
It was a bestseller and is out of print and difficult to find at after market book dealers.
